Rumor has it…
Rumors, the little album that could. I bought the dvd-audio of this back in 2001 (ish). Back then my home system was a bit lacking (it sucked). Well, 11 years later and I've repurchased it (cost me more now than it did then, surprise). 11 years can make you forget a lot of things, like how freakin' good this album is. I think it took 8 tracks before I found a track I didn't care for (ah bullshit, I liked them all). This is like an Eagles album that the Eagles didn't make. It has that Southern California feel, although the Eagles had more Country in the mix than this album, with great hooks and solid lyrics. If you close your eyes and pretend real hard, Stevie Nicks kinda sounds like Joe Walsh. She's better looking though, which if you've ever seen Joe Walsh, that's not really a compliment.
As for the sound, well I'm pretty sure there's no way this could sound any better. Surround music is funny, if you remaster something people have only heard in stereo you have to be careful not to "pull it to far apart". An example of this is "Don't Stop". When you hear the surround track it loses some impact. When you go to the stereo version, the impact is back. It's like eating soup or eating all of the ingredients in the soup by themselves. Other than that, this baby is clean, sharp and beautiful. Just take a listen to Gold Dust Woman with the cowbell placed firmly and clearly in the right channel. Or the drum piece in the middle of "Never Going Back Again" which quite frankly I never even heard before this. If you have a small mint sitting around doing nothing, try to find this on Ebay, lay yourself down in the tall grass and let it do it's stuff.
