It' s A Bird, It's a Plane, It's Super 8!
Wow! Yep I said Wow! It's been a long time since I had this much fun watching a movie. Is there a hotter commodity in Hollywood right now than J.J. Abrams? (maby Scarlett Johansen, but for different reasons :-)) Teaming up with Steven Spielberg doesn't hurt either. If you haven't seen Super 8, your insane. Well maybe your not insane but you need to see it.
Rarely does a movie hit all the important requirements:
Story/Plot
Character/Acting
Pace
Effects
Heart
I think I've mentioned before that a lot of movies made today spend all their efforts on effects and skimp on story, pace, acting etc… They figure if they dazzle you with bright lights and big sounds you won't notice everything else is missing. Well fortunately they didn't miss anything on Super 8. The best way I can sum up Super 8 is to describe it as a cross between The Goonies and E.T. It has the adventure feel you get from Goonies or an early Indiana Jones and the heart of E.T. That's pretty good company in my opinion. With a solid story and plot and a excellent pace, it's hard not to stay interested in what's going on. The young cast gave great performances. And most importantly, this movie has heart. I know sounds stupid but it's hard to make fun of a movie this sincere. But even more than that, it's just plain fun. With all the crap movies that have come out lately (I'm looking at you Green Hornet), it's a welcome change to just enjoy watching a well made movie. Fun, you remember that don't you?
